Este film es la clásica película de adolescentes americana, protagonizada por dos chicos que no pueden ser más distintos el uno del otro, pero que al final se hacen amigos inseparables. Por un lado tenemos a Devin, el clásico chico estudioso, que llega a un punto en el que se da cuenta de que ha perdido cuatro años de su adolescencia, en los cuales no ha hecho lo que se supone que hacen los chicos de su edad. Por otro lado está Mac, que es el alumno más antiguo debido a que no estudia nada, y se pasa el día con las mujeres, fumando y en compañías poco recomendables. De esta manera, lo que le falta al uno lo tiene el otro de manera que ambos se encuentran.
